Daisy came to Mission:Wolf from Washington DC. A woman found, what she believed to be, a cute dog puppy abandoned at a convenience store. By the time Daisy was a year old, her owner new she was not a dog. She was told by friends and the vet that Daisy was a coyote, then finally a wolf.
Daisy’s owner did well with her till she turned four and the owner unexpectedly become pregnant. Daisy saw this as an opportunity to gain rank and tried to become the alpha female of the pack. Her owner knew that, with a new baby coming, she couldn’t keep her beloved Daisy any longer. A local zoo helped arrange Daisy’s flight out to Colorado, and she arrived at Mission:Wolf in 2006.
Upon her arrival at the refuge, we discovered that Daisy was a vegetarian. She just didn’t know what to do with the first piece of meat she saw. However, it didn’t take long before she was gulping meat down as fast as she could get it.
Over the years she’s been at the refuge, Daisy has lived with several different males. She had no idea how to relate to other wolves and beat up the first two males without hesitation. Daisy eventually found a companion in a wolf-dog named Sangre. They are a perfect match – they are both confused wolf-dogs who don’t understand who or what they are. Since moving in together, Daisy has gained confidence from Sangre’s presence and now comes up to the fence to greet staff members. She has even helped calm Sangre down and taught him not to bark at everything he sees.
